Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. It’s part of Caltrans’ ongoing commitment to the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program. The work is part of the $56 million Highway 50 Y to Trout Creek project that is building new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and drainage systems to treat storm water runoff. Highway 50 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this work. There will be additional grinding and paving work throughout the two-mile project limits throughout September. The intersection operation is expected to be completed within a week. For the duration of the paving work, the contractor is permitted around the clock lane reductions, weather permitting. Starting at 5 a.m Monday, the “Y” intersection of Highway 50 and SR-89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction while the roadway is ground down and replaced with new asphalt.
